A question that’s posed to us all the time is, “What must my minimum credit score be to obtain VA loan financing?” That’s a fantastic question.

If you’ve wondered the same thing, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to learn that VA loans don’t require a minimum credit score! However, you can expect to hear a different story from your lender. If your score is 580, for example, your lender will tell you that it needs to be at least 600, 620, or 640 for you to qualify for VA financing.

Why is that?

Well, on top of the rules spelled out by the VA, banks actually set their own rules. This is because every bank has their own comfort level when it comes to loaning money. So if your score currently sits at 620, and your bank won’t provide financing until you raise it to 640, I encourage you to give us a call and together we can find you a lender willing to help you with your specific situation.

This has been your VA tip of the week!
